Language question
Can anybody tell me the plural of the jinn.. in arabic and english if you will.. maybe with some sort of description on the word.. insha'allah this all makes sense.
I'm not really sure what the best word for jinn is in English. As for the arabic, in singular form it's "jaann" and the plural is either "jinn" or "jinnah" (like at the end of suratun Naas).
Yeah, Jaann is the plural for Jinn. As someone said it can't really be translated. Some people like to call jinns ghosts or spirits in English but they most certainly are not. They are a creation of Allah, as we are humans (insaan). So I think Jinn should be used even when speaking in English. If a person doesn't know what the word means then it's best to explain it. Thats my 2 cents!
salams sister someone needs to explain to me why my DH (not an arabic speaker) says jennoun for plural jinn :) your commentators are right, I am just confused as to why he says it like that. In english, i just say spirits made of fire.
just wanted to add we can't see them its more feel them and its an uncomfortable feeling. The one that makes your hairs stand on end!
In my heart i belive they are what are known as ghost ect in the English language, also they live life ,have tribes, oppress, worship, marry , have children ect It's like in another realm that we can't see but they see us.
Please feel free to leave your comments, baring in mind that I dont have to accept them if they show ignorance, hatred or racism.. but I generally accept them all because what free country do we live in if you cant express yourself through my blogs?
Salaam in Arabic the plural of jinn is JAAN as it occurs in Surah Rahmaan v15 "And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke"

ReplyDeleteNow as for English , its hard to explain as they don't have them but it could be what thay call ghost, sprits and phantoms ect
