Weekend work

When I started this job I was looking forward, sort of, to the hours.. 12 hour shifts I can deal with, gets them all out the way. And the week off in between was great, no weekend work.. granted I start at 0200 or thereabouts Thursday-Wednesday but still it could be worse. Anyways, this Saturday I have to be onsite for an engineer to do his work and Im not looking forward to it as I actually have very little to do workwise except some reading, finishing off a test for completing a course I went on in October.
So Ive decided to make a list of things to do non work related :) here goes...
  1. Learn the new surah Ive been talking about (Al-Qari'ah)
  2. Get a big chunk of my stitching done
  3. Start on a new book Im reading with a sisters book club via facebook
  4. Print out an ebook that Ive been emailed a link to
  5. Maybe have a little nap now and again ;)
Anything else you ladies can think of that I SHOULD be doing on a day in work with no work to do? a long day at that, maybe around 10 hours :(

Tomorrow, tomorrow...

.. Im flying out tomorrow, still not sure if my mum is parking up and coming in or just dropping me off. Suitcase is HEAVY, that I know I just dont know how much.. going to weigh it tomorrow and go through my bits to try to level things out insha'Allah. Cant wait to see hubby when he picks me up at the airport, I spoke with him a few times today which was nice alhamdulillah.. although I would rather speak to him face to face but it was good to hear him smile :) as cheesy as that sounds.
Well, its late and im very tired.. just wanted to let you all know where I am. Had great fun with Ms eyeS and Melissa the other day alhamdulillah and old friends from work. Always good to catch up masha'Allah

Peace and salams,

Today

Salam,
so its wednesday morning, Im working at 12 insha'Allah so it gives me plenty of time to catch up on things in the morning. The downside is that it means a lot longer without dh :( but alhamdulillah at this time in the recession I have a job and thats the important thing.
I woke up early this morning, although in my book I have had over 10 hours sleep so its not really early hubby just constantly asks why so early when I dont have to be up really until around 1030 lol... Ive made some finishing touches to some little things, I finished my packing last night and Ive just made some coconut cookies for hubby :) which he has grown to love and to be honest I love cooking them too... so win win really. They have just finished so before I get changed and make lunch I decided to apply for a few jobs and write a new blog. I miss out on so much through being away from my laptop, Im actually taking it to Canada with me so insha'Allah Ill be able to catch up on some things there although Im not intending on being still for too long lol. I have lots planned and I cant wait to see some of you girls (well actually I think its just Ms eyeS but thats enough for me alhamdulilah) I have plenty of meals organised, some sight seeing, plenty of shopping, walks, and general chill out sessions with peeps that I havent seen since leaving Canada. Oh and plenty of snowboarding, which also means plenty of photos and videos per hubbies request :D I wish he could come with me, but Allahu alim. I just pray he uses the time wisely and has plenty to show/tell me when I get back here. I know Im going to miss him terribly but thats something that cant be avoided and this isnt something I plan to repeat in the future.
I ordered some stuff for my mum to take over to Canada, they tried to deliver it yesterday but noone was home so Im hoping that its back there today and Im going to try to find the place. They say leave 72 hours for it to get back.. but I dont have that amount of time and this has to be sorted, so be prepared Royal Mail ;) I was also asked to take over some stuff to send to a cousin of a work collegue, now I know what people feel like being asked to take stuff 'back home' lol... its amusing, but the stuff she wanted sending is really heavy and I hope it doesnt cost too much to send over there insha'Allah
Anyways, I should get ready to leave soon... if I want to find this place in time insha'Allah... take care peeps, this will probably be the last time I blog before I leave the UK. Gonna miss Mina's leaving party :( but Ill see her and everyone soon insha'Allah
Fi amenallah, peace and salams

How things are going

Its been a little while and I have meant to post pictures but I just havent gotten around to it. When I get home from work, sometimes Ill turn my computer on but its not really to do things its more to just browse and catch up although I am totally caught up on facebook via my iphone. So thats why its taken me awhile, I had a girl post a comment on my previous blog that needed an email reply and that took me a few days to do for which I apologise and am totally remembering how I said I wouldnt change in my internet doings after I get married lol :D However I love it and would give up so much more for the happiness Im feeling right now, well maybe not right now... as Im working 12-8 tonight (why Im doing this now before leaving for work) which means I wont see him for over 15 hours which hurts to even just think about it :( I think Im going to seriously start looking for a job closer to home after this year or the next few weeks are over with.
So whats new? well for my first free weekend since I got married my mum will be over here :( blah... Im taking her to my uncles house to finalise all his paperwork.. its totally unnecessary but its something that she feels guilty about not doing and I wont hear the end of it if she doesnt do it. Yes its over Eid weekend, which also means the first Eid as husband and wife I wont be with my husband which hurts me to the core and Im not happy about. I keep trying to remember all the Eids in the future insha'allah that we will both be apart of so thats what is keeping me going. I wanted my mum to meet A on this trip, but since mentioning that Ive met someone to her she hasnt said one thing about him. Now it looks like he might be working a few extra hours but I still want him to be there and I dont know how to go about it all. Man, parents are soo annoying... the one person who I thought would have problems with A is the one person who asks how he is and sends his regards in every phone call (my Grandad) so I cant wait for them to meet. Trying to figure out about going up north for Xmas to meet the other side of the family too, its just gonna be cramped and I dunno how to approach the subject with my dad.
As a side note remembering what Ms EyeS mentioned about using this opportunity to lavish and describe my new status and the things he does for me.. well, I might just do that and tell you ladies that he treats me like a princess alhamdulillah. He wont let me do much for myself and I love being outside with him, hes always to hand and protects me without even thinking. He walks next to the road, even when I position myself there he unknowingly moves to the other side so Im not next to the road, I never realised it would be this... comforting... natural.... easy Alhamdulillah.. with hardship comes ease right? Alhamdulillah.
Anyways, its nearly time for me to leave for work and I got to take the washing out the machine.. insha'allah Ill be back real soon... Peace and salams

My minor moral dilemma

So this is my latest facebook status says Ammena K is having a minor moral dilemma and a few girls seemed pretty concerned so Im going to explain. Like I said... minor... it goes like this

Yesterday I picked up a brochure at the SnS event (details to follow later) and there was an advert in there for the emel subscription which I have been debating about for a few months now. There is usually a free gift that goes with the subscription and the book they normally mention is supposed to be a good book. However, in the magazine it says a different book which is actually a copy of the most amazing Quran I have ever owned!! I have it in Canada and have been trying to figure out how Im going to get it back here, anyways thats another story. So this Quran has the english, arabic, transliteration, footnotes and notes on every chapter aswell as background information and is beautifully presented.
The dilemma is that it is for students and obviously Im not a student :( they ask for the university and course you are attending... soooo what to do??

22 October 2009

guess what

Realised the other day that A is left handed... not that it makes a difference, but Ive known him for how long now? 3 months and Ive only just found out.. I thought that in itself was funny
daughter: Im getting married
father: is he like us?
daughter looks puzzled
father: you know.... right handed!!
daughter: Dad, Ive only known him 3 months. It hasnt come up yet

hehee... sorry.. its late, we just put a deposit down to secure a flat and Im all giddy after measuring my wardrobe to see the difference to the one we want to put in the new flat :D
Alhamdulillah

Would you....

.... marry someone not from your country (as in no visa)
.... not marry someone because of cultural differences that you hadnt yet seen but were sure they would be there
.... not marry someone purely because he couldnt 'provide' for you straight away
.... not marry him because he just might get sent back to his country
Id like to hear peoples experiences in these types of situations insha'allah

Things I miss

I just came across this post on another blog and thought I would do something similar

so when I wear my hijab the things I miss are...

the feeling of the sun on my skin
being able to blend in with the 'ordinary' crowd (by that i mean the not overly noticeable crowd)

and trying to think now there isnt much more that I miss alhamdulillah :) Thanks MyHijab for making me think of these things

Back

So, Im back.. life is moving forward, I have forms to fill in for the job and maybe Ill go down for a few days next week for some health test. I cant do much yet as its the bank holiday tomorrow, Im still yet to hear back about the 2 interviews I went for last week. Allah knows best what is good for me, Ive decided if I had a choice of all 3 I think the one in Ware, Herts at GSK would be the best for me. Its only 30 from London on the train, its got great potential in the company and even if they didnt extend the contract after 6 months the experience I would get from working there would be highly beneficial masha'allah. However, if I didnt get the chance to take that option the NHS job is still a good start at least for now and who knows what Allah has planned for me right. Im only just realising now the benefit of not knowing what is planned and that we can plan all we want things dont always turn out as we expect. Take my move to UK for instance, I thought I knew exactly the reason for me coming back, but as time moved on and things seemed the same, I began to question and now that my uncle has passed Im fairly sure I was brought over here for him. However, I really dont mind the reasoning for being here and Im not going to consume my time with questions and theories.
Anyways, dont want to bore anyone.. just wanted to tell you whats in my head at the moment :) Ive recently been lent the 4 'Twilight' series books and I have to tell you I love them!! I was up until about 430am reading the 1st one, Ive finished that (after starting yesterday evening) and am now into the 2nd book (new moon) I love all these fantasy books, go ahead tell me its haram, that I shouldnt be reading this, but its my life! yeh you heard me :) Ive not picked my stitching up in awhile, but insha'allah Ill do some tomorrow. My Grandad got took into hospital this morning too, they have decided to keep him in overnight for observation so insha'allah he will be back soon.
Anything else? I have a car at present, until tuesday.. not much planned really although I should. Going to see my cousin probably tomorrow, am off to meet a friend in Manchester on Friday and maybe go to Trafford Centre with her (depends if she has a car) am also looking into an Islamic retreat in the dales in a few weeks time.. Ive been to a few before while I was at uni, it would be good to catch up with some old friends insha'allah.

Sunny London

So Im down here for a few days :) just popped in to waste some time in the internet cafe.. what else to do eh? got me thinking... how am I going to cope again with knowing noone when I move down here. Insha'allah it'll work out, I aint gonna start worrying about something that trivial. The interview went ok I think.. its a really good opportunity masha'allah so will see what Allah has in store for me insha'allah. Outies!!

RE homework

I just came across my cousins RE book and decided to have a nosy in it. I always wonder what they teach in RE at schools here, she goes to a catholic school, but even at my old comprehensive I dont really remember learning much other than Christianity.
First mention of Islam 'Islam means peace through the submission to God' nice eh? Next under the heading of Diversity in dress came 'A muslim girl has to keep her legs and arms covered. She wears loose fitting trousers with whatever clothes she has on. Older girls can wear a sari when they are about 15 years old. Muslim women always cover their head when they go out' Tick tick tick.. saris?? erm... me thinks teacher needs a bit of teaching here!!!
They do more about Judaism in the school lessons from what I see, obviously they dont really need to do Christianity as they have mass and classes separately.

Where were you when....

There is a recent advert on tv asking where you were when Obama was elected last year so I thought I would do a little blog about the things that have happened in the news.
So Im always being asked (or should be) where I was when Obama was elected, when Diana died, when the Berlin wall fell. Where were you??

When Obama was elected I was flying over the Atlantic Ocean on my way back to live in the UK, the captain came on the tannoy even though most people were alseep and announced that Barack H Obama had been elected the next American president.
When Princess Diana died I was working the morning shift in McDonalds and had walked into the staff room to greet a few people who were getting ready to start the shift at 12pm. The tv was on and someone was talking about how they couldnt believe it had happened, I asked what they were talking about and they preceeded to tell me. Of course I didnt believe them until they pointed to the tv and said 'look!' I was astonished, on the screen was the picture of the car at the edge of the tunnel and they were announcing that her and Dodi had not survived the crash
When the Berlin wall fell, well in my defence I was only 8, the first thing I remember about it was my friend from down the road showing me what her father had brought back (I dont even know why he was there) from Germany... a piece of the Berlin wall with the graffitti all over it. We werent too fussed with it, but it was cool to have a random coloured brick :D to an 8 year old it was the best ;)

So? Where were you?

DeoxyriboNucleic Acid

So yesterday I was having a conversation with my auntie about what funny things are passed on through generations. She commented that it showed how some of the strangest things are passed with our DNA. Take me for example (because that was obviously who we were talking about) I never grew up with my dad, I went to his house once a week for about 8 hours (read - not necessarily saw him for 8 hours) I very rarely stayed a night, he left before I was 2 and I stopped seeing him regularly when I started working at 16. However my mum is always telling me to stop pulling certain faces because I look like my dad, since I have been back this time Ive realised I have many eating habits, things I dont like for particular reasons that Im constantly finding out my dad doesnt like for the same reason. There was no way of me knowing these things, so how else would I have them? coincidence? or chemistry? I like to believe the latter.. and of course, Allah :)
